Our Mission Statement
St. John's is a community church for all ages, moving in the power of the Spirit
Our Vision
Our vision is to see the Kingdom of God grow in our area (Matt3:2) and know the grace of God in our lives and church (Rom12:6-8)
Our Values - How we will grow
Faith in God - we seek his presence and Lordship in our lives through spirit-filled worship and sacrificial Christian lives
A living faith in Jesus Christ will change our lives, bringing great joy and real responsibility. (Eph4:11-13) We are called to grow as Christians becoming mature disciples and fulfilling a ministry in the body of Christ
We want St. John's to be a friendly and welcoming place with a clear and strong Christian identity, where all people can: "Feel that they belong, as they grow in their commitment to Jesus as Lord of their lives" "Grow in their personal relationship with God, through relevant teaching, cell groups and training courses" "Learn more about the Bible as God's written word" "Share in the passion we feel in the way we live as Christians" "Experience the power and gifts of the Spirit" "Make increasing use of their own spiritual gifts" "Receive prayer ministry for any aspect of their lives and environment" "Belong to an outward looking, vibrant Christian community bringing standards of Christian excellence to our neighbours"
Faith in one another - we are one body made up of many parts, with many gifts and ministries. (1Cor12)
We seek to assist people in deepening their faith and finding their calling in the wider body of Christ. Working together as the body of Christ, and using our God given gifts we can serve our community with excellence, and bring glory to God. We are building a loving Christian community where: "People can serve others and share the love of God with people new to faith" "New Christians can grow as disciples, ministers, and leaders" "Everyone has the opportunity to use God-given gifts, to serve in the life of the church and to learn on suitable courses" "Children and adults are equally valued" "People can belong to cell groups - places to help Christians to relate the Bible to their lives, and share faith stories" "Cell group members and others meet together monthly in a new mid-week format to encourage mission and growth" "Pastoral care is available through cell groups in the life of the church, and through visiting and prayer" Faith to reach out - we have a purpose, to be where people are, and to share Gods love with them regularly and appropriately
We believe evangelism and mission to be fundamental for Christians and the Church. Evangelism is a statement of faith, not a particular programme or method. It is the responsibility of every Christian to use their God given gifts to fulfil Jesus' command 'to go into all the world'. (Matt.28:18) Our aim is always to have in mind the needs and questions of non-Christians in every area of church life, looking for opportunities to share our Christian story with others. Working together as the body of Christ, and using our God given gifts we connect with and serve our community:
"With excellence and generosity, bringing glory to God" "Finding ways to develop every member ministry, especially through teams and groups e.g. The Vine, Kidz Church, Cells, Worship" "Providing a warm welcome as people approach and enter the building" "Offering attractive, informative, user - friendly worship services"
"Organising a midweek programme to meet local and deanery needs - reaching all people" "Running ALPHA courses for people who want to discover more about the Christian faith"
